Riyadh, January 11 2026, (Agencies) – Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council announced the formation of a Supreme Military Committee on Saturday, tasked with overseeing, organizing, and equipping all government-aligned forces for the next phase of the conflict, as state troops secured key military camps across the country.

In a televised address, Council President Rashad Al-Alimi praised Saudi Arabia for its “sincere brotherly role” in supporting Yemen’s unity, legitimacy, and stability, describing the Kingdom’s backing as a lasting partnership for the country and the wider region.

“The difficult decisions taken during the past pivotal days were aimed at protecting citizens and preserving their dignity,” Al-Alimi said, emphasizing adherence to the constitution, the law, and the transitional framework. He called on Yemenis to unite behind state efforts, return looted property, surrender illegal weapons, and participate in restoring state institutions.

The announcement coincided with the Southern Transitional Council (STC) declaring its dissolution during the Riyadh Southern Dialogue Conference on Friday. STC members thanked Saudi Arabia for hosting the talks, which aimed to resolve unrest in southern Yemen. Former STC leader Aidarous al-Zubaidi, wanted by the Presidential Council for high treason, has fled the country and did not participate.

During the dialogue, STC members stated that military operations in Hadramout and Al-Mahra had harmed the southern cause, noting that they had not taken part in planning these operations. They expressed hope that the Riyadh Conference would produce a lasting vision for resolving the southern issue.

Al-Alimi reaffirmed that government forces had regained control of camps in Hadramout, Al-Mahra, Aden, and other liberated governorates, and warned that the Houthis’ refusal to engage in dialogue prolongs Yemen’s suffering. He urged collaboration with the Coalition and international partners to combat terrorism, prevent arms smuggling, secure waterways, and deter cross-border threats.

The formation of the Supreme Military Committee and the STC’s dissolution mark a significant step toward consolidating state authority and advancing peace efforts in Yemen under Saudi-mediated dialogue.
