Nizhny Novgorod, September 19, 2025 (Agencies): The historic Russian city of Nizhny Novgorod has transformed into a global meeting point for young people as it hosts the World Youth Festival Assembly from September 17 to 21. The event has drawn 2,000 participants from across Russia and around the world, offering a program rich in cultural exchange, diplomacy, and innovation.

The festival opened with a day of cultural immersion, giving guests a firsthand look at Russia’s heritage. Participants toured the city’s iconic landmarks, including the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin, Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street, and the scenic confluence of the Oka and Volga rivers at Strelka. Guided by the “Guides of Meanings” community, visitors explored exhibitions such as “Atom. Future” — commemorating 80 years of Russia’s nuclear industry — and the WORKSHOP multimedia art space.

Young attendees praised the host city’s beauty and hospitality. “Nizhny Novgorod fascinated me with its beauty, coziness, and special spirit. I truly love Russia and this wonderful city,” said Shaaban Malak of Egypt. Delia, a participant from Italy, remarked on the city’s resemblance to her homeland and expressed admiration for Russia’s World War II history. Nolvazi Zhuber Mabilisi said he was captivated by the panoramic views of the Volga River, adding, “This is definitely a place I wish to live at.”
A major highlight was the “Symphony of Time: Feel, Live, Create!” immersive performance, which took the audience on a journey through Russian history — from the era of ancient Rus and the golden age of literature to the Soviet period and modern-day scientific and cultural achievements — all set to a powerful soundtrack of Russian music.
The festival also declared Nizhny Novgorod the capital of the Phygital Games 2025, blending e-sports and athleticism. Attendees witnessed competitions in phygital basketball and hockey — sports that combine video game play with real-life execution — featuring 400 athletes from over 50 Russian regions and several countries.
Alongside the main events, a children’s program involving 200 schoolchildren is being held, focusing on youth diplomacy, values-based education, and projects aimed at strengthening international friendship.
Organized by the Russian Federal Agency for Youth Affairs (Rosmolodezh) and the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, the World Youth Festival Assembly is supported by numerous state institutions and corporate partners, underlining Russia’s effort to position Nizhny Novgorod as a hub for global youth dialogue and innovation.
