Washington, August 14, 2025 (Agencies) — The United States Department of State has approved a potential Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to Bahrain involving M142 High-Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) and associated equipment, valued at up to $500 million, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) confirmed in an official release.
Under the proposed deal, Bahrain has requested four HIMARS launchers and three International Field Artillery Tactical Data Systems. The comprehensive package also includes M28A2 practice rocket pods, fire direction centers, resupply vehicles, GPS receivers, simulators, generators, communications gear, software support, and extensive logistics and training services.
The DSCA emphasized that the sale aligns with US foreign policy and national security objectives by strengthening Bahrain—a key non-NATO ally and host to the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet—as a stabilizing force in the Middle East. The acquisition is expected to enhance Bahrain’s ability to counter evolving threats, support US personnel and installations, and operate effectively within US-led coalitions.
Lockheed Martin, headquartered in Grand Prairie, Texas, will serve as the principal contractor for the deal. Implementation will involve deployment of five US government personnel and ten contractors to Bahrain for a four-month period to assist with equipment setup and operator training.
The DSCA noted that the sale would not alter the basic military balance in the Gulf region.
