Kyiv, March 20, 2026 (Agencies) – The Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine has alleged that Russia has launched a large-scale information campaign aimed at discrediting Kyiv over energy supplies to the European Union.
According to Ukrainian officials, the campaign involves spreading what they described as false claims that Ukraine is attempting to block energy supplies to Europe. The accusations, reportedly circulated through Russia-linked media and online platforms, portray Ukraine as engaging in so-called “energy terrorism.”
The center said key narratives of the campaign include allegations that Ukraine is threatening European countries through energy blackmail, demanding financial and military support to sustain the war, and attempting to disrupt oil and gas flows via major routes such as the Druzhba pipeline, TurkStream and Blue Stream.
Ukrainian authorities rejected these claims as “false and manipulative,” asserting that they are designed to undermine trust between Kyiv and its European partners and to weaken international backing for Ukraine.
Officials further stated that Moscow has historically used energy supplies as a geopolitical tool and accused Russia of targeting energy infrastructure during the conflict, with broader implications for European markets.
The statement also comes amid broader cybersecurity concerns, with earlier reports suggesting that sensitive information from officials in the Netherlands may have been compromised through messaging platforms.
The Ukrainian center emphasized that maintaining stable energy cooperation with Europe remains a priority and accused Russia of attempting to exploit the issue to influence public opinion and diplomatic relations.
