Karachi, Pakistan (Agencies) Aug 2, 2025 — The U.S. Consulate General in Karachi has issued a security alert following a reported threat targeting upscale hotels in the city, prompting temporary restrictions on official visits by U.S. government personnel.
According to the advisory released on July 31, the consulate received credible information regarding a potential security risk directed at high-end hospitality venues. In response, the U.S. Embassy and Consulates have designated such locations—including hotels, tourist attractions, shopping malls, and restaurants—as off-limits to official personnel until further notice.
The alert urges American citizens and foreign nationals in Karachi to exercise heightened caution, avoid crowded areas, maintain a low profile, and remain vigilant in locations frequented by tourists and Westerners.
While the nature of the threat has not been publicly disclosed, the U.S. State Department continues to maintain a Level 3 travel advisory for Pakistan, advising citizens to reconsider travel due to risks of terrorism and armed conflict.
The consulate emphasized that these precautionary measures are part of broader protocols routinely enacted in response to credible threats. U.S. citizens in Pakistan are encouraged to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive real-time security updates and to contact consular services in case of emergency.
