- Harris is set to start a book tour for her memoir, “107 Days“
- The termination of additional security is effective Sept. 1, according to CNN
WASHINGTON, Aug 29 (Agencies): US President Donald Trump has ordered the termination of Secret Service protection for former vice president and 2024 Democratic rival Kamala Harris, CNN reported Friday, citing a letter sent to her.
According to the report, Harris’ post-office security detail — normally provided for six months to former vice presidents — had been extended to one year under then-President Joe Biden. The protection, however, will now end on September 1, just days before Harris begins a national book tour for her upcoming memoir “107 Days.”
Neither the White House nor Harris’ office immediately commented on the decision. A Harris adviser told CNN that the former vice president was “grateful to the US Secret Service for their dedication” during her tenure.
Harris, who lost the 2024 presidential election to Trump, has not ruled out a potential bid for the 2028 race. The move marks the latest in a series of terminations of federal security protections under Trump, who earlier ended coverage for former national security adviser John Bolton as well as Hunter Biden and Ashley Biden, the children of former President Biden.
