WASHINGTON, October 10, 2026 (Agencies) – US President Donald Trump announced that he has reached an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin for the supply of millions of tons of Russian diesel fuel to American and global markets following a telephone conversation between the two leaders.

According to Trump, Russia will immediately supply more than 300,000 tons of diesel fuel, followed by 500,000 tons in November and another 1 million tons shortly thereafter. He also said an additional 3 million tons could be delivered depending on the operational condition of Russian refineries.

Announcing the agreement on Truth Social, Trump said the move would help ease supply pressures and lower diesel prices for consumers, farmers, ranchers and trucking companies in the United States and around the world.

Following the announcement, the US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) issued a temporary general license permitting the supply of Russian diesel to global markets. The authorization also allows the importation of Russian-origin diesel, including into the United States, for a limited period.

The agreement marks a significant shift in US policy toward Russian energy exports, coming only weeks after Washington enacted legislation aimed at increasing pressure on Moscow over the Ukraine conflict. Critics argued that the move could undermine previous sanctions efforts, while supporters said it may help relieve rising fuel costs and strengthen global energy supplies.

The announcement prompted immediate reactions from political leaders and market observers, with analysts closely watching whether the promised diesel shipments materialize and how they affect global fuel prices in the coming months
