Paris, September 22, 2025 (Agencies) – Hollywood director Tim Burton and Italian actress Monica Bellucci have officially announced their separation, ending a two-year relationship that began with a celebrated artistic collaboration and public admiration.
In a joint statement issued to AFP, the couple said, “It is with much respect and deep care for each other that Monica Bellucci and Tim Burton have decided to part ways.” The announcement follows months of speculation after the pair were last seen together at the Taormina Film Festival in Sicily earlier this year.
Burton, 67, and Bellucci, 60, first connected at the Lumière Festival in Lyon in October 2022, where Bellucci presented Burton with the prestigious Lumière Award. Their relationship became public in 2023, and Bellucci later confirmed their romance in an interview with Elle France, saying, “I’m glad I met the man, first of all… I know the man, I love him, and now I’m going to meet the director — another adventure begins”3.
Their professional collaboration came to life in Burton’s 2024 sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, where Bellucci played Delores, a villainous, Frankenstein-like creature opposite Michael Keaton’s iconic character. Speaking at the film’s premiere, Bellucci praised Burton’s artistic vision, calling him “an artist who knows how to make situations that are fantastic and horrific and comic and emotional all at the same time”.
Both stars bring storied personal histories to the relationship. Bellucci was previously married to French actor Vincent Cassel, with whom she shares two children. Burton was in a long-term relationship with British actress Helena Bonham Carter until 2014; they also share two children.
The announcement has drawn attention across the entertainment world, marking the end of a high-profile romance that blended cinematic legacy with European elegance.
