Bangkok/Phnom Penh, December 11, 2025 (Agencies) – Fighting between Thailand and Cambodia continued at a high tempo on Thursday, marking the fourth full day of renewed hostilities between the two Southeast Asian neighbors.

A spokesperson for Thailand’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) told reporters in Bangkok that clashes were ongoing across several flashpoints along a 600 km stretch of the border. “The conflict is not decreasing in tempo at all,” the spokesperson said, adding that Thai military services were conducting joint operations “based on proportionality and the right to self-defence” to repel Cambodian forces.

Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence (MND) similarly described intense operations, claiming Thai forces had deployed frontline assets including main battle tanks, fighter aircraft, artillery platforms firing 105 mm and 155 mm munitions, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), loitering munitions, and a large number of troops.

Earlier in the conflict, Thai border provinces including Ubon Ratchathani, Si Sa Ket, and Surin were cited as key battlegrounds. On December 11, additional provinces such as Sa Kaeo, Chanthaburi, and coastal areas off Trat were identified as conflict zones. Cambodia’s MND reported that fighting was fiercest in its border provinces of Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, Preah Vihear, and Oddar Meanchey.

According to the Thai MoD, the Royal Cambodian Army (RCA) has deployed BM-21 Grad 122 mm multiple rocket launchers, mortar systems, and loitering munitions in these contested areas.

Latest Developments

Officials confirmed that at least 19 people have been killed since the fighting began, with over 500,000 civilians displaced from border provinces on both sides. Camps in Cambodia’s Preah Vihear and Siem Reap provinces are reportedly overwhelmed, while Thai authorities have begun relocating residents from conflict zones.

International concern is mounting. The United States has said President Donald Trump will call the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia to demand an end to hostilities. China is also closely monitoring developments, while ASEAN’s earlier ceasefire efforts have collapsed amid mutual accusations of violations.

The escalation underscores the intensity of the conflict, which shows no signs of abating as both sides continue to commit heavy weaponry and large troop deployments along the frontier.
