Peshawar Pakistan (Khyber Mail) 10 August 2025 — A rare celestial event unfolded early Sunday as six planets—Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune—aligned in a sweeping arc across the eastern sky, drawing awe from observers across Pakistan and around the globe.
The planetary alignment, visible just before dawn, was best seen from locations with clear horizons and minimal light pollution. In Pakistan, cities such as Peshawar, Lahore, and Islamabad reported ideal viewing conditions, with Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, and Saturn clearly visible to the naked eye. Uranus and Neptune, positioned farther from the Sun, required telescopes or high-powered binoculars.
“This was one of the most visually striking alignments in recent years,” said Dr. Farzana Malik, an astrophysicist at Quaid-i-Azam University. “It’s a reminder of the vast and elegant mechanics of our solar system.”
The phenomenon was not limited to South Asia. Skywatchers across Europe, North America, Central Asia, and the Middle East also witnessed the alignment, with astronomy clubs and observatories hosting public viewing events. In many regions, the spectacle coincided with the active Perseid meteor shower, adding streaks of light to the already dazzling display.
NASA classified the event as a large planetary alignment, a configuration that occurs only a few times per decade. The next similar alignment is expected in February 2026.
Local astronomy groups in Pakistan reported a surge in interest, with many residents taking to rooftops and open fields to catch a glimpse. “We had dozens of people join our pre-dawn session,” said Ahsan Raza of the Peshawar Skywatchers Society. “It’s rare to see so many planets lined up so clearly.”
The alignment remains partially visible through mid-August, with August 23 expected to offer peak clarity due to minimal moonlight interference.
