Tel Aviv (Agencies) — July 23, 2025: Israel’s internal security service, the Shin Bet, has arrested a 70-year-old woman from central Israel on suspicion of plotting to assassinate Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with an improvised explosive device. The suspect, described as an anti-government protester affiliated with recent demonstrations, was detained two weeks ago and remains under restrictive conditions while an indictment is prepared.
According to public broadcaster KAN, the woman allegedly conspired with unnamed accomplices to obtain explosives and scout Netanyahu’s security arrangements. During her interrogation by the National Unit for Serious and International Crime Investigations, she admitted intent to kill the prime minister but did not identify her co-conspirators or the source of the device.
Following her arrest, a Jerusalem court barred her from approaching any government institution or Netanyahu himself and imposed a gag order on her identity and address at the defense attorney’s request. Investigators lifted a prior media blackout on case details this week, but the suspect’s name remains withheld pending indictment.
An indictment charging her with conspiracy to commit a crime and conspiracy to carry out a terrorist act is expected to be filed on Thursday. Shin Bet officials declined to comment on further security measures but emphasized that no breach of official premises or harm to the prime minister occurred.
The plot marks an escalation in threats against Israel’s leadership amid ongoing political tensions. Netanyahu’s office has not issued a public statement, but security sources say protective protocols around the prime minister have been tightened.
