MAKKAH, October 18, 2026 (Agencies) – Saudi Arabia has carried out the death sentences of two Bangladeshi nationals, identified as Nuzrul Islam Abdul Basir and Seti Akhtar, after they were convicted of what authorities described as immoral acts inside a mosque in Makkah.

According to the Saudi Ministry of Interior, the two were arrested, investigated and referred to a competent court, which found them guilty and imposed the death penalty under ta’zir, a form of discretionary punishment under Islamic law.

The ministry said the sentences were upheld by the relevant judicial authorities and implemented following a royal order on October 14.

The official statement did not disclose further details about the alleged acts or identify the mosque where the incident reportedly occurred.

Bangladesh’s Consulate General in Jeddah reportedly said it had not received advance notification of the executions and had sought formal clarification from Saudi authorities through diplomatic channels.

The case has drawn attention to the circumstances surrounding the convictions, although further details about the proceedings and the individuals’ access to consular assistance have not been publicly established.
