• SVR claims British intelligence preparing staged provocation to implicate Moscow in terrorism

MOSCOW — October 7, 2025 (Agencies): Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) has accused the United Kingdom of preparing a false-flag terrorist attack in Europe aimed at blaming Russia and escalating Western military support for Ukraine. The explosive allegation was made in a statement released by the Press Bureau of the SVR on Monday.

According to the SVR, Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s cabinet and British intelligence agencies are allegedly enraged by the failure of long-standing efforts to achieve a “strategic defeat” of Russia and are now planning a “vile provocation” in response to Moscow’s battlefield gains in Ukraine.

The SVR claims that the UK intends to orchestrate an attack involving Russian nationals fighting alongside Ukrainian forces, targeting either a Ukrainian navy vessel or a foreign civilian ship in a European port. The statement further alleges that members of the group have already arrived in the UK for training.

“After the terrorists are ‘discovered,’ it is planned to be announced that they were acting on ‘Moscow’s orders,’” the SVR said. “London is counting on the Russophobic European political elite to embrace the narrative of ‘malicious Kremlin agents’ in order to justify increased military aid to Ukraine and the militarization of ‘united Europe’ against Russian aggression.”

In a further claim, the SVR stated that the UK plans to equip the group with Chinese-made underwater gear, which would then be presented as fabricated evidence of Beijing’s support for Russia’s military operations.

As of this report, there has been no official response from the UK government regarding the SVR’s accusations. Western officials have previously dismissed similar claims from Russian intelligence as disinformation aimed at deflecting attention from Moscow’s own actions in Ukraine.

The allegations come amid heightened tensions between Russia and NATO countries, with both sides trading accusations over covert operations, cyber warfare, and proxy engagements across Europe.
