Samarkand, Uzbekistan August 26, 2025 (Khyber Mail) — In a landmark diplomatic gesture, King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan conferred Jordan’s highest national honor, the Order of “Al Nahda” (“Renaissance”), upon President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of the Republic of Uzbekistan during his state visit to Samarkand.
The award ceremony was held following high-level talks between the two leaders at the Congress Center in Samarkand, marking the first-ever state visit by a Jordanian monarch to Uzbekistan. President Mirziyoyev accepted the honor with deep appreciation, describing it as “a worthy recognition of our joint efforts to expand multifaceted cooperation and a sign of friendship and respect for the people of Uzbekistan.”
The visit underscored a new chapter in bilateral relations, with both sides agreeing to elevate ties to a comprehensive partnership. Discussions focused on strengthening political dialogue, expanding trade and investment cooperation, and deepening cultural and humanitarian exchanges.
A total of 15 bilateral documents were signed, including agreements on extradition, visa abolition, investment protection, higher education, tourism, agriculture, and air transport. The leaders also proposed launching an Intergovernmental Commission and a Business Council, with inaugural meetings planned before year-end.
President Mirziyoyev and King Abdullah II emphasized the importance of mutual support within international platforms such as the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. They reaffirmed their commitment to promoting tolerant and enlightened Islam and agreed to intensify collaboration between research centers and Islamic studies institutes.
The Uzbek President praised King Abdullah II’s “Aqaba Process” initiative and proposed hosting a future session in Samarkand. Both leaders welcomed plans to introduce a visa-free regime and launch direct flights between the capitals, aiming to boost tourism and business connectivity.
In conclusion, King Abdullah II extended an invitation to President Mirziyoyev to visit Jordan, further cementing the growing friendship between the two nations.
