NEW YORK (Agencies): Pakistan has been re-elected as a member of the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (UNCND) for a four-year term, securing the highest number of votes in elections held at the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in New York. This achievement underscores Pakistan’s significant role in global counter-narcotics efforts.

The election results reflect the confidence and trust reposed in Pakistan to actively contribute to the Commission’s work. Pakistan’s delegation expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support received from ECOSOC member states, emphasizing the country’s commitment to combating drug-related challenges and shaping multilateral policy discourse.

Established in 1946, the UNCND serves as the primary global drug policy-making body, supervising the application of international drug control treaties. Pakistan has been a longstanding contributor to these efforts, playing a vital role in ensuring comprehensive and effective international drug control measures.

Pakistan’s re-election comes at a critical time, as the country continues to address domestic and regional drug-related issues. The government has pledged to work closely with other UNCND members to strengthen the Commission’s role and advance global initiatives aimed at reducing the menace of narcotics.
