Islamabad, February 12 2026, (Agencies) – Pakistan achieved a significant milestone in its national space programme with the successful launch of its second indigenous Earth Observation Satellite EO 2 from China’s Yangjiang Seashore Launch Centre on Thursday, further strengthening the country’s capabilities in high resolution imaging and earth observation.
Developed by the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission SUPARCO, the EO 2 satellite is designed to enhance national capacity for monitoring natural resources, environmental changes and urban development while supporting planning and governance through accurate satellite based data.
According to SUPARCO officials, the satellite will play a vital role in disaster management, climate analysis and strategic decision making by providing timely and precise imagery. The addition of EO 2 to Pakistan’s satellite fleet is expected to improve data continuity, expand coverage and increase the precision of earth observation services.
Officials described the launch as a major milestone in Pakistan’s space journey, noting that the indigenous development of EO 2 reflects growing technical expertise and progress toward self reliance in advanced satellite technology. They added that the achievement demonstrates the country’s commitment to using space based solutions for socio economic development, national resilience and scientific advancement.
