Pyongyang, October 5, 2025 (Agencies): North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has inaugurated the Military Hardware Exhibition “Defiance Development-2025” in Pyongyang, where the regime showcased a new generation of advanced weapons systems. According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the event coincides with the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Workers’ Party of Korea and aims to display the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s (DPRK) defense capabilities and scientific-technological advancements.

The exhibition highlighted ultra-modern weapons that Pyongyang claims have been developed into key components of its military power. Kim Jong-un emphasized that the showcased systems represent the results of crucial defense projects, designed to enhance the country’s strategic deterrence and modernize its military structure with a focus on nuclear capabilities.

Kim described the current global security environment as unstable, warning that the rapid buildup of US military power in the region poses “a genuine and serious threat” to both the DPRK and regional stability. He reiterated that if Washington continues to disregard the security concerns of neighboring states, Pyongyang will “adopt further military and technical steps to neutralize emerging threats and preserve the balance of power.”

Analysts say the exhibition underscores North Korea’s continued focus on strengthening its strategic weapons program, despite international sanctions and diplomatic isolation. It also comes amid heightened tensions in Northeast Asia, with increased military activity by both the United States and its allies, and growing military cooperation between Pyongyang, Moscow, and Beijing.
