HARIPUR, March 19 2026 (Shahid Ali Khan) – Concerns have surfaced over the expenditure of millions of rupees on the “Quranic Garden” and campus beautification projects at the University of Haripur, with allegations of irregularities and lack of proper authorization.

According to official documents and sources, large-scale plant purchases were made under the beautification initiative, overseen separately by Major (Retd.) Iqbal and Dr. Aziz Ullah, Convener of the Beautification Committee. Substantial funds were reportedly released in advance directly to Dr. Aziz Ullah, with later adjustments submitted to the Treasurer’s Office.
Critics argue the projects were initiated without Syndicate approval and in violation of the University Master Plan, raising questions about transparency and accountability.
Adding to the controversy, the university’s only horticulture specialist, Dr. Naila Nawaz, Deputy Director Horticulture, was transferred to teaching duties under the Agriculture Coordinator. Despite her reassignment, sources claim plant purchases worth millions continued.
University officials defended the decisions, citing the Registrar’s Office order and insisting they were taken “in the best interest of the institution.”
The matter has drawn attention in academic and administrative circles, with observers calling for stricter oversight of financial management and project approvals in public universities.
