Karachi, 14 September 2026 (Khyber Mail) — Construction of the BYD-Mega Motor Company (MMC) purpose?built new energy vehicle (NEV) assembly factory in Gharo, Sindh, has entered its final stages, with equipment installation and commissioning currently underway. The plant is scheduled to commence operations in the second half of 2026.
Built in under 18 months, the project represents one of the fastest automotive manufacturing developments of its scale in Pakistan. Once operational, the facility will mark the country’s first locally assembled BYD vehicles.
Company officials said that, as with any world?class manufacturing operation, a thorough process of equipment validation, production trials, and quality testing is required to ensure the plant meets BYD’s global standards before volume production can begin.
The Gharo plant is expected to play a pivotal role in Pakistan’s automotive sector by introducing locally assembled NEVs, creating jobs, and supporting the government’s push for sustainable mobility.
