Islamabad, February 7, 2026 (Khyber Mail) — The All Pakistan Tenure Track Faculty Association (APTTA), led by its President Professor Dr Asif Ali, has congratulated Professor Dr Niaz Akhter on his appointment as Chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), expressing hope that his leadership will address key challenges faced by university faculty across the country.

In a statement, the association said it expects the HEC under Dr Akhter to prioritise the long-pending issue of salary revision for Tenure Track System (TTS) faculty members, noting that their salaries have remained unchanged since September 2021 despite a sharp rise in inflation. According to APTTA, cumulative inflation exceeding 86 percent has significantly eroded the purchasing power of faculty, while increased income taxes over the same period have further reduced take-home pay.

The association highlighted that the combined impact of inflation and taxation has led to a substantial decline in the real value of TTS salaries, affecting morale, financial stability and professional satisfaction among academics serving in higher education institutions nationwide.

APTTA urged the newly appointed HEC chairman to expedite the salary revision process and ensure that TTS faculty receive fair compensation in recognition of their academic contributions and role in strengthening Pakistan’s higher education sector. The statement was issued with contact details of Professor Dr Asif Ali, President of APTTA.
