Bucharest, December 24, 2025 (Agencies) – NATO is activating a second major military aid logistics hub in Romania to support deliveries of equipment and supplies to Ukraine, officials have confirmed. The new center, set to begin operations in January 2026, will operate alongside the existing hub in Rzeszów, Poland, and aims to strengthen the alliance’s logistics network on its eastern flank.
The decision was announced by Major General Maik Keller, deputy commander of NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine (NSATU). NATO officials said the Romanian facility is intended to reduce reliance on a single transit point through Poland and improve resilience and flexibility in moving military assistance to Ukrainian forces. The new hub will fall under NATO command and be fully integrated into coordination efforts for donor support to Ukraine, including the transit of artillery, air defense systems, electronic warfare equipment and other materiel.
In 2025, NATO-coordinated efforts facilitated the movement of roughly 220,000 tonnes of military aid into Ukraine through a combination of truck convoys, rail shipments and strategic airlift. The opening of the Romanian logistics center is expected to double the capacity for such deliveries, offering a southern route for aid that complements the northern corridor through Poland.
Defense officials emphasised that expanding logistical infrastructure reflects evolving operational needs as Ukraine’s requirements increasingly include longer-range systems and more sophisticated equipment. NATO continues to adapt its support mechanisms to meet these demands while enhancing overall readiness and deterrence on the alliance’s eastern flank.
