Grand Blanc, Michigan, September 28, 2025 (Agencies): Multiple people were shot on Sunday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, a small community near Flint, Michigan. Authorities confirmed that the suspected shooter has been neutralized and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The attack was followed by a fire that engulfed the entire church building, forcing emergency crews to battle flames as law enforcement evacuated the area. Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson described the situation as “dynamic,” noting that local and federal agencies are assisting in the response.

The number of victims and their conditions have not yet been disclosed. Witnesses reported heavy police presence and emergency vehicles surrounding the site, which lies about 80 kilometers north of Detroit in a largely residential area.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer condemned the violence, saying that “an attack in a place of worship is unacceptable,” and praised first responders for their swift action.

The shooting comes just one day after the death of Russell M. Nelson, the longtime president of the Mormon Church, at the age of 101. By church protocol, his successor is expected to be senior apostle Dallin H. Oaks.

Authorities have urged residents to avoid the area while investigations continue. A press briefing is expected later today.
