Tel Aviv / Gaza City (Agencies): August 30, 2025 — The Israeli military has reportedly targeted Abu Obaida, the prominent spokesman of Hamas’s armed wing, in an airstrike on Gaza City, according to multiple media outlets.
Israeli Army Radio and regional news agencies said the operation was intended to assassinate Abu Obaida, long considered the voice of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades. However, conflicting reports have left his fate uncertain, with no official confirmation from either Israel or Hamas on whether he was killed in the attack.
Abu Obaida, born Hudayfa Samir Abdallah al-Kahlout in 1985, has served as Hamas’s chief spokesman since 2007. Known for his masked public appearances, he has been the group’s key figure in issuing statements, threats, and updates during the ongoing conflict with Israel.
The strike comes amid escalating Israeli operations in Gaza, where targeted assassinations of senior Hamas figures have intensified in recent weeks.
