- Frontline jets including Rafale, Mirage 2000, and Su-30MKI to participate in high-intensity operations
NEW DELHI (Agencies) July 22, 2025 — The Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to conduct a large-scale military exercise from July 23 to 25 across key districts in Rajasthan, spanning Barmer to Jodhpur, in close proximity to the India-Pakistan border, defense officials confirmed.
The exercise, part of the IAF’s routine operational readiness training, will feature frontline fighter squadrons including Sukhoi Su-30MKI, Rafale, and Mirage 2000 jets, alongside air defense systems, early warning platforms, and critical ground support infrastructure. A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has been issued to clear civilian airspace during the drill period.
Officials emphasized that the drill will focus on night operations, rapid response coordination, and desert combat readiness, reflecting the IAF’s strategic emphasis on 24/7 air warfare capabilities4.
This exercise follows Operation Sindoor, a four-day military confrontation in May 2025, during which India launched strikes in Pakistan and Pakistani Kashmir. Pakistan retaliated with drone and missile attack.
The IAF’s reliance on Russian-designed platforms remains central to its operational doctrine. Over 220 Su-30MKI jets, manufactured under license by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, form the backbone of India’s fighter fleet. The Su-30MKI, known for its supermaneuverability and long-range strike capabilities, will play a pivotal role in the upcoming drills.
Earlier this year, India hosted Aero India 2025, where Russia showcased its Su-57 Felon stealth fighter, and the US displayed its F-35, signaling India’s growing engagement with fifth-generation technologies. Russian arms exporter Rosoboronexport has indicated that India could potentially upgrade its domestic production lines to assemble advanced stealth aircraft, given the existing defense collaboration.
Pakistan has also issued parallel NOTAMs for its central and southern regions, suggesting simultaneous military activity
