GUANGZHOU (Agencies): In a futuristic leap for the beauty industry, Guangzhou, the capital of South China’s Guangdong Province, has introduced AI-powered hair washing services that are rapidly gaining popularity. Priced at just 19 yuan (approximately $2.59), the service offers a fully automated hair washing experience operated by intelligent machines with minimal human involvement.
According to China National Radio (CNR), these AI hair salons are equipped with advanced hair-washing machines capable of handling multiple customers simultaneously. One such store, operating since December 2024, features five AI machines managed by only three staff members. At peak times, the salon reportedly serves over 100 customers a day, with current daily footfall averaging between 30 to 40 clients.
Before the wash begins, customers undergo a scalp health assessment using specialized diagnostic tools. Based on the analysis, staff select appropriate shampoos and adjust the AI machine settings to cater to various hair types and scalp conditions.
The 13-minute procedure includes two shampoo cycles, a conditioning phase, and seven rinse stages. The machine also offers massage functions and uses infrared lights and multiple water jets to adjust angles automatically for optimal scalp cleaning.
Customization options include adjustable cleansing intensity, hair length settings, and maintenance modes, offering a tailored experience for each user. Initially launched at a promotional price of 9.9 yuan, the service has become a trendy and affordable self-care option for residents across several districts of Guangzhou.
Employees say the AI system significantly reduces staffing pressures, allowing three workers to efficiently oversee all machines. Customers, meanwhile, describe the experience as both thorough and novel.
“It felt strange at first, but the results were great,” said Ms. Li, a first-time customer. While some netizens have raised concerns about its effectiveness for complex scalp issues, most agree that it’s a convenient and innovative solution for routine hair care.
As the demand for efficient and tech-driven beauty solutions grows, Guangzhou’s AI hair salons may well represent the next wave in personal grooming services.
