Women security concerns are one of the biggest issues in Pakistan today. Even though we live in a modern era and education is spreading, people still show less concern and often neglect women issues.
This raises an important question: Why is it so and what are the cases?
In Pakistan, the lack of women’s security has not only affected our society but also damaged our global reputation. Many foreign women hesitate to visit the country because they consider it unsafe. Unfortunately, several tragic cases highlight this reality. The brutal murder of Noor Muqadam, the case of Qandeel Baloch, Tiktoker Ayesha Akram and most recently the killing of Sana Yusuf are heartbreaking examples.
These incidents show that women continue to face harassment at workplaces, online, and even in their own homes. They are subjected to domestic violence and killed in the name of Honor.
The most recent case in Balochistan involved a young couple who were murdered by the woman’s own family simply because they chose a love marriage. Instead of protecting her rights, her life was taken, and a video of the incident went viral. Sadly, such cases have become a common issue in Pakistan.
The roots of these problems lie deep in the patriarchal system of our society. People are bound to follow rigid traditions where male dominance is prioritized. Families often silence their daughters to “protect honor”. On the other hand, weak law enforcement allows culprits to go free. As a result, victims are blamed instead of being defended and injustice continues to grow.
However, these issues can be reduced if proper steps are taken. The government must announce and strictly implement laws against violence and harassment. At the same time, awareness should be spread in everywhere and especially in rural areas where people are less educated and unaware of women’s rights. We as a society need to change our mindset. Respecting women is not just about protecting them it is about valuing them as equal members of society.
If we cannot respect our mothers, sisters, and daughters, we cannot build a prosperous nation. Real change will only come when both society and government work together to ensure that women feel safe, respected and empowered.
