Tel Aviv (Agencies) — July 20, 2025: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been diagnosed with intestinal inflammation caused by food poisoning and is currently working remotely under medical supervision, according to an official statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office on Sunday.

The 75-year-old leader reportedly fell ill late Saturday night and was evaluated at his Jerusalem residence by Dr. Alon Hershko, chief of internal medicine at Hadassah University Hospital. Netanyahu is being treated for dehydration with intravenous fluids, and doctors have advised him to rest and work from home for the next three days.

“In line with the attending physician’s instructions, the Prime Minister will temporarily refrain from public appearances and continue conducting state affairs from home,” the statement confirmed.

This health episode adds to a series of recent medical events involving the Prime Minister:

  • In July 2023, he underwent a pacemaker implantation due to heart irregularities.
  • In March 2024, he was treated for a hernia and missed several cabinet sessions.
  • In December 2024, Netanyahu had surgery for a benign prostate condition.
  • Earlier in 2025, he contracted the flu, resulting in a brief interruption to his official schedule.

Despite the setbacks, Netanyahu’s annual medical report has repeatedly stated that he remains in a “completely normal state of health”, with no signs of cancer or dependency on cardiac devices.

No disruption to government functions has been reported. Cabinet ministers have continued daily briefings with Netanyahu via secure communication channels.

As of Sunday evening, officials confirmed that the Prime Minister is recovering well and will resume in-person duties once cleared by his medical team.
