Islamabad, March 26, 2026 (Khyber Mail) — The Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad commemorated Bangladesh’s Independence and National Day with dignity and patriotic fervor, hosting a series of events that honored the sacrifices of the nation’s freedom fighters and celebrated its journey toward sovereignty.

The embassy premises were adorned with colorful banners, festoons, and posters to mark the occasion. The day began with the ceremonial hoisting of the national flag by Bangladesh High Commissioner to Pakistan, Md. Iqbal Hossain Khan, in the presence of embassy officials and staff. The national anthem was sung in unison, setting a solemn tone for the day’s proceedings.

The official program commenced with a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by a minute of silence in memory of the martyrs of the Liberation War. Messages from the President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, and State Minister for Foreign Affairs were read aloud, reaffirming the nation’s commitment to honoring its history and building a prosperous future. A documentary highlighting the significance of Independence Day was also screened.

Welcoming attendees, High Commissioner Md. Iqbal Hossain Khan paid tribute to the martyrs and freedom fighters of 1971, including the brave women who played pivotal roles in the struggle. “Independence is the greatest achievement of the Bengali nation,” he said.

He urged all citizens to unite in preserving the values of independence and to work toward a discrimination-free, exploitation-free, and prosperous Bangladesh. “We must glorify the sacrifices of our brave soldiers and strive sincerely from our respective positions to build the Bangladesh they envisioned,” he added.

The event concluded with special prayers for the eternal peace of the martyrs and the continued progress and prosperity of Bangladesh.
