Sydney, December 14, 2025 (Agencies) – At least five people were killed and several others injured after two gunmen opened fire during a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach in Sydney on Sunday evening, according to media reports.

Witnesses said two men dressed in black began firing toward crowds gathered near Campbell Parade, sparking panic as hundreds fled the area. Footage posted online showed people running for safety while emergency services rushed to the scene.

Authorities confirmed casualties but have not yet released full details on the number of injured. New South Wales Ambulance reported that more than a dozen victims were taken to hospitals, with several in critical condition.

Local police urged residents to avoid Bondi Beach and follow official directions. In a post on X, police confirmed that both gunmen had been apprehended and were now in custody.

The attack has shocked the community, taking place during the first night of Hanukkah, a major Jewish holiday commemorating the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem. The festival is traditionally marked by family gatherings, public celebrations, and the lighting of candles over eight nights.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described the incident as “shocking and distressing,” praising emergency responders for their swift action. Jewish community leaders condemned the attack, calling it a direct assault on religious freedom and communal safety.
