ISLAMABAD, September 20, 2026 (Agencies) — The Pakistan Army has carried out a major reshuffle at the senior command level, with several major generals assigned new responsibilities at General Headquarters, field formations, intelligence organisations and paramilitary forces, according to reports citing military sources.
Major General Adil Iftikhar Warriach has been appointed Director General Military Intelligence, moving from command of 7 Infantry Division. Major General Sajid Mehmood has reportedly been appointed DG Z, while Major General Muhammad Shamriaz Khan has been assigned DG S and Major General Jawwad Riaz DG P.
In field formations, Major General Khurram Shabir has been appointed GOC 17 Infantry Division, replacing Major General Azhar Yasin, while Major General Zill-e-Husnain has been posted as GOC 15 Infantry Division. Major General Waqas Qureshi has assumed command of 14 Infantry Division at Okara.
Major General Zafar Iqbal has been appointed Inspector General Frontier Corps South Balochistan, while Major General Ahmed Farhan has been assigned as the first IG Frontier Corps West Balochistan. The western FC appointment comes as the security structure in Balochistan undergoes further changes.
Major General Atif Rafique has been appointed Director General Pakistan Coast Guards, replacing Major General Jawwad Riaz, while Major General Hassan Mehdi has reportedly been posted as Chief of Staff Central Command.
The reshuffle follows the Army’s recent promotion cycle, in which a number of brigadiers were promoted to major general. Reports indicate that the latest changes involve movement between operational formations, intelligence assignments and senior staff positions.
