Islamabad, 10 September 2026 (Khyber Mail) — Speakers at a special event marking the 50th death anniversary of Chinese leader Chairman Mao Zedong lauded his historic contributions to China and the world. The function, hosted by the Pakistan?China Institute, was largely attended and featured a keynote address by its Chairman, Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed.
Other speakers included prominent journalist Hamid Mir and leading lawyer Salman Akram Raja. Former Speaker of the National Assembly Syed Fakhar Imam was the Chief Guest, while the session was presided over by former Foreign Minister and Ambassador to China Inamul Haq. Senator Sitara Ayaz delivered the vote of thanks.
In his keynote speech, Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed described Chairman Mao as one of the three historical giants of the 20th century who shaped the course of history. He hailed Mao as the “architect of Pak?China friendship and builder of new China,” emphasizing that China remains the pivot of Pakistan’s foreign policy.
The event highlighted Mao’s enduring legacy, his role in transforming China, and his contribution to laying the foundations of the Pakistan?China relationship, which continues to be a cornerstone of regional cooperation and mutual trust.
