Peshawar, March 19 (Agencies): Eid-ul-Fitr prayers were offered in the Sufaid Sang area on the outskirts of Peshawar on Thursday, as local residents marked the festival following reports of moon sighting in the area.

According to local sources, the decision to celebrate Eid was made after claims of Shawwal moon sighting by community members and local clerics. Subsequently, large congregations gathered in mosques and open spaces early in the morning to offer Eid prayers and exchange greetings.

Reports indicate that announcements were made in local mosques regarding the timing of Eid prayers, leading to orderly gatherings of worshippers in the area.

Similar instances of early Eid celebrations have also been reported in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly in North Waziristan and some other tribal districts, where local moon sightings are occasionally followed ahead of the official decision by the central authorities. Afghanistan also celebrated eid today.

Meanwhile, in most parts of Pakistan, the 29th fast of Ramadan was observed, with the official announcement regarding Eid-ul-Fitr expected after the meeting of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
