Beijing, March 13 2026 (Agencies) – Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called for Afghanistan and Pakistan to resolve their differences through dialogue and consultation, warning that the use of force would only worsen tensions and threaten regional stability.
Speaking in a phone conversation with Afghan Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, Wang emphasized that “Afghanistan and Pakistan are inseparable brothers and neighbors that cannot be moved away from each other.” He stressed that unity and cooperation among regional countries are essential in the face of external volatility.
Muttaqi expressed appreciation for China’s active mediation efforts, noting that the Afghan people, long burdened by war, value peace and development. He reaffirmed Afghanistan’s commitment to ensuring its territory is not used to attack neighboring countries and said Kabul seeks friendly coexistence rather than military confrontation.
Wang highlighted China’s impartial stance in the conflict and revealed that Beijing’s special envoy on Afghan affairs has been shuttling between the two countries to encourage calm, restraint, and face-to-face exchanges. He urged both sides to achieve a ceasefire as soon as possible and resolve disputes through dialogue.
China, he added, is prepared to continue playing a constructive role in promoting reconciliation and easing tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan. The two foreign ministers also exchanged views on the situation in Iran, with Wang reiterating China’s willingness to work with the international community, including Afghanistan, to strive for peace.
