Peshawar, January 23, 2026 (Khyber Mail) – The University of Engineering and Technology Peshawar has strengthened educational opportunities for youth from District Lakki Marwat through a fully funded scholarship programme supported by Lucky Cement Limited. Under the initiative, students from Lakki Marwat enrolled at UET Peshawar will receive complete financial assistance for their engineering studies.

A memorandum of understanding was formally signed between Prof Dr Sadiq Khattak, Vice Chancellor UET Peshawar, and Mr Noman Hassan, Executive Director Lucky Cement Limited, in the presence of senior management and faculty members. The agreement aims to promote access to quality higher education for students from underserved areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Under the agreement, a total of 16 students from the Fall 2025–26 session holding domicile of District Lakki Marwat have been selected for the scholarship programme. The scholarships will support students enrolled in Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering at the Jalozai Campus, as well as Chemical Engineering and Mining Engineering at the Peshawar Campus.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Sadiq Khattak highlighted the importance of strengthening industry–academia collaboration, particularly through student internships. He also proposed the establishment of an Industry Chair by Lucky Cement Limited to set up a dedicated research and development laboratory at UET Peshawar to address real-world industrial challenges through faculty- and student-led research. He appreciated Dr Shahzad Khattak, Director Undergraduate Studies, for leading the efforts to facilitate the entire process.

Mr Noman Hassan said Lucky Cement Limited strongly supports local talent, noting that graduates are more inclined to contribute to the development of their own regions. He said this approach benefits both local communities and the industry. He added that as the oldest engineering university in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, UET Peshawar has created a unique space by extending higher education opportunities to students from remote and underserved areas. Reaffirming the company’s commitment, he said the scholarship programme offered under its corporate social responsibility initiative would continue to support deserving and talented students of UET Peshawar.

Senior Dean Prof Dr Rizwan M Gul, Dean Electrical Prof Dr Syed Waqar Shah, Registrar Dr Khizar Azam, Prof Dr Amjad Ali, Chairman Electrical Engineering, along with representatives from both organisations, were also present at the ceremony.
