Rabat, January 21, 2026 (Khyber Mail): His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, has accepted an invitation from United States President Donald J. Trump to become a Founding Member of the Peace Council, an international initiative aimed at contributing to peace efforts in the Middle East and adopting new approaches to resolving global conflicts.
According to a statement issued by Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Living Abroad, participation in the Peace Council is reserved for a select group of internationally recognized leaders committed to promoting security, stability, and prosperity for future generations. The invitation, the statement noted, reflects recognition of King Mohammed VI’s enlightened leadership and his standing as a key peacemaker, as well as the confidence he enjoys at the international level.
While welcoming President Trump’s commitment and vision for advancing peace, King Mohammed VI graciously accepted the invitation. In this context, the Kingdom of Morocco will ratify the charter establishing the Peace Council.
The Peace Council will take the legal form of an international organization tasked with promoting stability, restoring governance, and ensuring lasting peace in regions affected or threatened by conflict. Its mandate will focus on practical cooperation, effective action, and partnerships aimed at achieving tangible results. Membership in the council will be granted exclusively by invitation of the President of the United States.
The statement further said that Morocco welcomed the announcement of the launch of the second phase of President Trump’s comprehensive peace plan, as well as the official establishment of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza as a temporary transitional body.
Reaffirming its longstanding position, Morocco reiterated its commitment to a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace in the Middle East. Under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, the kingdom continues to support the establishment of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, living side by side in peace with Israel, the statement concluded.
