Makkah, December 26, 2025 (Agencies) – A swift and courageous intervention by a security guard at the Grand Mosque in Makkah saved the life of a man who attempted suicide by jumping from an upper level of Masjid Al Haram, Saudi authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred when a man leapt from the top floor of the Grand Mosque, prompting an immediate response from on-duty security personnel. A guard intervened to break the man’s fall, sustaining injuries in the process and preventing what could have been a fatal outcome.
In a statement posted on X, the official account of the Emarah of the Makkah Region said the Special Force for the Security of the Grand Mosque promptly initiated procedures in the case, adding that a security officer was injured while attempting to prevent the man from hitting the ground.
Saudi Arabia’s Minister of the Interior, Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif, personally contacted the injured guard, identified as soldier Rayan bin Saeed bin Yahya Al-Ahmad, to inquire about his health and commend his bravery. Al-Ahmad sustained multiple injuries while attempting to save the man, and both were rushed to hospital after receiving initial medical attention at the scene.
The interior minister praised the officer’s courage, commitment, and high level of awareness, describing his actions as an example of the principles upheld by Saudi security forces in serving religion and the country. He characterized the intervention as far beyond routine duty, calling it a selfless humanitarian act reflecting supreme sacrifice and exceptional professional preparedness at Islam’s holiest site.
Prince Abdulaziz also highlighted the continued support and care provided to security personnel by the Saudi leadership in recognition of their sacrifices in safeguarding the Grand Mosque and its visitors. He concluded the call by praying for the officer’s speedy recovery and safe return to duty.
