Moscow, December 10, 2025 (Agencies) – A Russian military transport aircraft, the An-22 Antey, has crashed while performing a test flight following recent maintenance, the Defense Ministry confirmed Tuesday.
The aircraft came down in a remote area of Ivanovo Region, about 360 kilometers from Moscow. Search and rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the crash site to determine the fate of the crew, while a commission from the Russian Air Force will investigate the circumstances of the incident.
According to TASS, the crash occurred near the Uvodskoye Reservoir, with parts of the aircraft discovered in the water. Sources told the agency that all seven crew members on board were killed.
The An-22 Antey, developed in 1965 in the Soviet Union, is the world’s largest turboprop aircraft. With a maximum payload of around 60 tons, it has set 41 world aviation records and is capable of transporting up to 290 soldiers or 29 crew members accompanying cargo over long distances.
