Tashkent/Washington, September 5 (Agencies) — President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan and President Donald Trump of the United States held a telephone conversation focused on enhancing the strategic partnership between their countries. The discussion, described as open and constructive, resulted in agreements to expand cooperation across economic, security, and humanitarian domains.
President Trump expressed strong support for Uzbekistan’s ongoing reforms under the “New Uzbekistan” initiative, commending efforts to modernize the economy and improve the welfare of its citizens. In turn, President Mirziyoyev congratulated the U.S. leader on the achievements of his administration, particularly in foreign policy and global security, and acknowledged America’s role in promoting peaceful conflict resolution and international stability.
The two leaders reviewed practical steps to boost bilateral trade and investment. Trade turnover between the two countries increased by 15 percent in 2024, reflecting growing commercial engagement. Both sides emphasized the importance of expanding business cooperation in key sectors such as civil aviation, electrical engineering, energy, agriculture, digital technologies, financial services, innovation, and education. A series of high-level meetings with U.S. companies and organizations is scheduled for later this month to advance long-term partnerships.
Security cooperation remains a cornerstone of the bilateral relationship. The presidents reaffirmed joint efforts to combat terrorism, extremism, and illegal migration, and discussed enhancing regional collaboration through the “C5+1” format, which brings together Central Asian nations and the United States to address shared challenges.
Cultural and educational exchanges continue to thrive, with branches of leading U.S. universities operating successfully in Tashkent. President Trump extended his best wishes to the Uzbekistan National Team, which is set to make its debut in the World Cup hosted by the United States next year.
President Mirziyoyev invited President Trump to pay an official visit to Uzbekistan at a mutually convenient time. Both leaders agreed to maintain high-level contacts and promote practical cooperation through ongoing dialogue and joint initiatives.
