Islamabad, Pakistan (Agencies) August 17, 2025 — The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has confirmed the successful deployment and operational readiness of the country’s latest remote sensing satellite, launched from China’s Xichang Satellite Launch Center (XSLC) on July 31, 2025. The satellite has now established stable communication with ground stations and begun transmitting high-resolution imagery, marking a major leap forward in Pakistan’s space-based capabilities.

Equipped with advanced imaging systems, the satellite is designed to support a wide array of national applications. It will revolutionize urban planning and infrastructure development by monitoring city expansion and regional growth trends. The satellite’s data will also enhance disaster management efforts by enabling early warnings and rapid response to floods, landslides, earthquakes, and other hazards.

Environmental monitoring is another key function, with the satellite capable of tracking glacier recession, deforestation, and climate change indicators. In agriculture, it will support precision farming, crop pattern mapping, and water resource management, contributing to national food security.

The satellite is expected to play a strategic role in major development initiatives such as the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), aiding in the mapping of transportation networks, identification of geohazard risks, and efficient resource allocation. These capabilities are set to improve decision-making across multiple sectors and promote sustainable socio-economic development.

SUPARCO officials emphasized that this achievement reflects Pakistan’s growing technological autonomy and commitment to self-reliance in space science. The satellite is the country’s second remote sensing system after PRSS-1, and its successful deployment underscores SUPARCO’s expanding role in Earth observation and national infrastructure planning.
