Kaliningrad (Agencies): Russia’s Navy has officially launched the “Vladimir Andreev” landing ship at the Yantar Shipyard in Kaliningrad, marking a significant upgrade in the country’s amphibious capabilities. The vessel joins the fleet alongside “Ivan Gren” and “Petr Morgunov”, boasting advanced modifications designed to enhance operational efficiency.
The Project 11711 warship features a revamped superstructure, improving radar and electronic system placement for better performance. Its expanded helipad allows for enhanced helicopter operations, increasing tactical flexibility. Additionally, the ship is equipped with beefed-up engines, providing superior strength and endurance.
The Vladimir Andreev is part of Russia’s broader modernization efforts under Project 117113 Cayman, which aims to improve transport capacity, defensive systems, and compatibility with UAVs and helicopters. The ship is designed to counter aerial and sea threats, featuring AK-630 guns and heavy machine guns for comprehensive coverage.
With a displacement of 8,000 tonnes, the vessel can operate autonomously for 30 days, accommodating 400 marines, 40 armored vehicles, and multiple helicopters or UAVs.
The launch of Vladimir Andreev underscores Russia’s commitment to strengthening its naval presence in the Baltic, reinforcing amphibious warfare capabilities and regional security operations.
