ISLAMABAD (Khyber Mail): The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) is set to bolster its aerial capabilities as its fleet of ZDK-03 aircraft undergoes a significant transformation into advanced electronic warfare and jamming platforms in China. These upgrades aim to enhance the PAF’s ability to disrupt and jam enemy aircraft and radar systems from extended ranges, providing a strategic advantage in modern aerial combat.
The ZDK-03, also known as the Karakoram Eagle, was first inducted into the PAF in 2011. The PAF operates a total of four ZDK-03 aircraft, which were initially designed as Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) platforms for early warning and surveillance operations. Reports now confirm that the aircraft are being modified with state-of-the-art electronic warfare systems, including enhanced radar and jamming equipment, transitioning them into multi-role assets.
The upgrades are expected to bring cutting-edge electronic countermeasures, allowing the PAF to target enemy communications, navigation, and radar systems effectively. Additionally, the aircraft’s integration into both Western and Chinese-made fighter jet operations will boost interoperability within Pakistan’s fleet.
This modernization aligns with the PAF’s ongoing efforts to maintain a technological edge amid evolving regional security challenges. The upgraded ZDK-03s are anticipated to be re-delivered to Pakistan in the near future, solidifying their role as key assets in the nation’s strategic defense arsenal. Further updates are awaited on their operational deployment.
