Sanaa (Agencies): Yemen’s Houthi movement has claimed responsibility for multiple attacks on the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier in the past 24 hours, signaling an escalation in the ongoing conflict in the Red Sea. According to Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree, the strikes were carried out using a combination of missiles, drones, and naval forces.
The attacks come amid heightened tensions following the launch of a U.S. military operation against the Houthis on March 15. President Donald Trump announced the campaign to counter Houthi strikes on commercial vessels in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. The U.S. has since launched airstrikes on Houthi-controlled areas, targeting missile sites, drone infrastructure, and command centers.
The Houthis, who control roughly a third of Yemen, have framed their strikes as acts of retaliation against U.S. military intervention. While the U.S. Navy has successfully intercepted several Houthi-launched drones and missiles, the group claims its operations have disrupted planned U.S. air raids on Yemen.
The ongoing conflict highlights the strategic significance of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden as crucial global shipping routes. With both sides ramping up military actions, concerns are growing over the potential for broader regional instability.
